Embracing a Life of Service & Generosity - Fr. Pat McGrath 10.20.24

Episode Summary

It can be tempting to daydream of power, recognition, and fame thinking that these things would finally give us the fulfillment we crave and the inner peace we seek. In this past Sunday’s Gospel, we see that even James and John, two of Jesus’ closest disciples, struggled with this. They wanted glory and positions of power. But Jesus flips their understanding entirely. Right after their request, Jesus asks a very different question of a blind man sitting by the road and teaches by example of what will truly give us a life of meaning by asking this man: “What do you want me to do for you?” That’s a question we’re invited to reflect on in our own lives. What do we really want deep down? It’s not about power or wealth, but about living a life of meaning, of service, and of generosity. What truly fills our hearts and souls is giving ourselves away for others. Today, Father Pat McGrath prays that we can hear the call to serve and embrace the mission of love and generosity in our own lives.
